Bad weather strikes!

03 Jun 2025 – Packed and ready to move, the team wait for a go/no-go decision on whether it is safe to travel down off of the ice cap today.

Finally it was decided to wait out the storm for another day at least.

With wind speeds over 20 mps (72 kph) whipping across the ice, the team is now hunkered down in the well-equipped huts at Grímsfjall in the centre of the Vatnajökull ice cap. While the worst of the storm was anticipated days in advance, strong winds are lingering in the days afterwards so it is still unclear for how long the team will be immobilised there.

A rope was set up so that team members can move between the huts safely in strong winds.
